QR code not scanning — what to check

If customers are having trouble scanning your QR code, here are the most common causes and how to quickly resolve them.

Overview

Your printed or digital QR code is the easiest way for customers to join your rewards program. If the QR code isn’t scanning properly, there are a few common issues that may be affecting its performance.

Things to check

1. The print quality is too low
If your printed signage is blurry, pixelated, or too dark, some phone cameras may have trouble reading the code. Try reprinting using a high-resolution version from your Worthify dashboard.

2. There’s glare or poor lighting
Glossy paper or bright light reflecting on the sign can cause scan interference. Place your signage in even lighting and avoid direct glare.

3. The QR code is too small or too far away
Ensure your QR code is printed large enough to scan easily from a reasonable distance — especially on windows or countertop displays.

4. Your display screen is too dim or distorted
If you’re using the Digital QR Code tab on a screen or tablet, make sure brightness is turned up and the display is clean and free of smudges.

5. The link behind the code is broken or inactive
This is rare, but you can test by scanning the code yourself. It should take you to your rewards join page. If not, try downloading a fresh QR code from your Print QR tab.

Best practices

  • Always test the code on multiple devices before printing or displaying it.

  • Consider displaying both a printed and digital version in-store to ensure maximum visibility.

  • Re-download your QR signage if you’ve made changes to your branding or program.
